Blue Avoider: Election is coming! Who are you voting for?

Red Avoider: I'm voting for Team Blue. We must keep Team Red out of power.

Blue Avoider: How can you vote for Team Blue? I hate Team Blue.

Red Avoider: Did you see what Team Red did? We cannot allow Team Red to be in charge.

Blue Avoider: Yes, but Team Blue is even worse.

Red Avoider: I don't think I like you. I hate Team Red, and you're going to let them win.

Blue Avoider: I don't think I like you either. I hate Team Blue, and you're going to let them win.

Blue Lover (to Red Avoider): I love Team Blue! Come with me—you have no other choice. Team Blue has a real chance of defeating Team Red.

Independent Thinker: Guys, what exactly do all of you expect from your politicians after they win the election?

Red Lover: I want Team Red in charge! I love Team Red. Whatever Team Red does, I'll support it.

Blue Lover: I want Team Blue in charge! I love Team Blue. Whatever Team Blue does, I'll support it.

Red Avoider: Silly question. It is hard to know what I want from a politician. It is even harder to agree with others on it. I only know which team I don't want.

Independent Thinker: None of you answered my question. I asked what you expect from politicians. I didn't ask whom you wanted in power.

Blue Lover: I want politicians bringing me socialism!

Red Lover: I want politicians making all these foreigners and all the people who are against my nation, faith, and traditions to be gone!

Blue Avoider: I don't know what I want. I just want Team Red to lose.

Independent Thinker (to himself): I fear we're out of time. There is no longer enough time to encourage enough people to think so we can preserve a government that fulfills the purpose our founders created it for. Many no longer know why government exists, and many no longer care. Their real enemy is their own evasion, but recognizing that would require thought. They do not want to think. They no longer believe learning matters. They no longer believe that knowledge matters. They no longer believe thinking matters.

They don’t know that no matter what their beliefs are, if man wants to live, man needs knowledge. Man needs to learn.

Man learns through facts, experience, and history—but facts alone are not enough. He must think to turn them into knowledge. Without thought, facts remain meaningless.

This is true in elections, and it is true in every aspect of life, including the task of knowing oneself, discovering what is good, and understanding what justice and happiness truly are.
